The Society is proud of its partnership with the University and recommends study with the University of Gloucestershire.

The University of Gloucestershire offers quality advanced training for study at home, through distance learning. It also advises the Society on training issues including continuing professional development, mentoring and Working with Your Council.

The University’s courses lead to advanced professional qualifications.

  • The most popular option is the two-year course leading to a Certificate of Higher Education in Local Policy (starting January or September 2008). For further information on this course and to help you decide whether to ask for an application form, click on the link to Local Policy.
  • You can always choose to take just one module at a time. Next semester the University is concentrating on a four-month module in Town and Country Planning (apply by the end of November 2007). For more information click on the link to Local Policy and see page 5. In the autumn of 2008 (September start), the four-month module is Procedures for Local Council Administration.
  • Once you have taken the Certificate of Higher Education, you can progress to the Diploma of Higher Education or even the BA Hons degree in Local Policy. Each level takes two years of part-time distance learning study. For more information on these courses for 2007/08 please email eskinner@glos.ac.uk .

The University of Gloucestershire's Local Policy courses are recognised by NALC/SLCC and CLG/DEFRA as professional qualifications for those working in local council management.

Please note July 9th and 10th - SUMMER SEMINARS AT THE SPA 2008 - this renowned two-day opportunity for members, officers, and others working with local councils to examine and discuss current issues of key importance will be held at the University’s Francis Close Hall campus. Bookings will be made through the Society.
