Under the Society’s constitution those eligible for formal Society membership are Clerks, Deputy and Assistant Clerks of Town, Parish and Community Councils in England and Wales and past service members of the Society.

All others with a role or interest in local councils may apply for service as Affiliate Members. This includes Town, Parish and Community Councillors, Officers of County Associations , Principal Council Officers and Councillors and any others with an interest in the Local Council Sector. Reciprocal arrangements to exchange services exist with the National Association of Local Councils based at Great Russell Street London.

Affiliate members may only attend branch meetings with the agreement of the relevant Branch Chairman, who may wish to consult members before making a ruling. They may not vote at Society meetings and are not eligible to attend the Society’s Annual General Meeting.

Otherwise services which are available are similar to those available to members, including;-

  • “The Clerk” journal
  • Access to the Society’s website
  • Access to SLCC training provision
  • Access to advisory services
  • Access to society events and conferences ( subject to the appropriate fee)
  • Eligibility for SLCC discount rates on some publications and supplies

There are two levels of affiliate membership.

a) Clerk Journal Only £30 per annum
b) All services as outlined above £160 per annum
