Advisory Service

The Advisory Service is a team of highly experienced clerks and qualified officers who are on hand to help members with questions and issues relating to any aspect of their job. Whatever the issue we will provide the advice and support you need.




Website/Eforum

The SLCC website includes full information about the Society’s current and future activities, including local, regional and national events and all the latest news from the Society. You will also find contact details for your local branch, and an extensive range of hot-links to other sites. You can also find a new job, search for a supplier or buy a book from our online bookshop. The members’ area provides a plethora of downloadable advice and information which can be accessed 24 hours a day.






Training

From the ‘Working with your Council’ course, designed to kick-start the career of new clerks, to advanced courses at the University of Gloucestershire, the Society actively supports the career advancement of its members.






Conferences & Seminars

Our conference programme is designed to educate, inform and entertain you, supporting you in your development as a clerk. They also provide you with an excellent opportunity for you to meet up and network with fellow clerks. Both members and non-members are welcome to most events with members benefiting from discounted rates.




The Clerk Journal

The Clerk is the official journal of the Society of Local Council Clerks, packed with interesting features, news, book reviews, letters and stories from around the country. The Clerk is a great way to keep informed of current affairs within the sector.






Representation

As a member of the Society your concerns and interests are represented throughout government. The Society is closely involved in all new issues that will effect your role including negotiating terms and conditions of employment and helping you with employment matters.





Networking
The strength of the Society is in the numerous opportunities it provides clerks to meet up. With a national network of 45 branches, regular conferences and events and an e-forum there are plenty of opportunities for you to share your experiences and concerns with fellow clerks.




The Institute of Local Council Management
Membership of the Society entitles you to also join the Institute of Local Council Management. The ILCM is a further opportunity for you to demonstrate your commitment and professionalism, both within your existing role and with the wider local government network.
