 About the trainer:

Roger Taylor is the Senior Partner of Hedleys Solicitors, a firm based in Surrey which has an extensive practice dealing with Parish and Town Councils in England. He lectures on subjects such as Common Land, Village Greens and Charitable Trusts for the SLCC and on other matters relating to the practice and procedure of Parish and Town Councils for a number of County Associations.

 Testimonials:

“The training was really useful in sorting out questions I’d had about some of our new devolved services. The informal and easy discussions on the day raised more matters that I hadn’t even considered might be questioned to be trading. All questions raised were answered comprehensively by Roger Taylor – clearly an expert in the field. Good advice was delivered with humour and clarity making the day informative and worthwhile. It’s good to know now the benefits and pitfalls of setting up a community interest company (CIC) and the safeguards to put in place. Thank you!"
Louise Dowe, St Ives Town Council

In Cornwall there is a move for increased devolution to Town and Parish Councils; we have to ensure we have the capacity for that. This Course provides invaluable pointers about how Councils can set up arrangements to trade, and most importantly not get caught out by acting beyond their powers, or by not having the correct procedures in place around liability, VAT, employees etc. Roger’s presentation style is engaging and the interactive nature of the training means that local and pertinent issues can be explored and advised upon. Thoroughly recommend you attend to ensure your Council is acting properly.
Mark Williams, Falmouth Town Clerk.
