There are two versions of this course, one course focuses on the role of Part Time clerks and the second, seperate version focuses on the role of Full Time clerks who may have staff to support them (which is detailed further below).

Course 1 - Who should attend?

Clerks who work part-time in their role regardless of their experience. 

Overview:

The first workshop aims to help part-time clerks to develop their personal effectiveness in their role. The workshop will be highly interactive and will provide an opportunity for clerks to develop the skills and techniques required to do their job with limited time and resources. Tailored to help you meet the challenges of the role, achieve the right work-life balance and cope with the specific demands of supporting your Council, the course will offer practical tools and techniques to use in the workplace.  The course is not designed to help you with legislation or other subject matter knowledge so will benefit new or experienced clerks alike.

Course outline:

We will be covering the 'how to' of:

  • Managing your time effectively
  • Prioritising work and achieving a work-life balance
  • Applying project management techniques
  • Working to your strengths
  • Developing and managing relationships
  • Communication
     

Course 2 - Who should attend?

Clerks who work full time and/or manage staff in their role.

Overview:

This workshop aims to help full time clerks to develop their personal effectiveness in their role.  The workshop will be highly interactive and will provide an opportunity for you to develop the skills and techniques required to support your Council and your staff (if applicable).  Tailored to help you meet the challenges of the role and cope with the specific demands of the Clerk, the course will offer practical tools and techniques to use in the workplace.  The course is not designed to help you with legislation or other subject matter knowledge so will benefit new or experienced clerks alike.

About the trainer:

Clive Stilwell has a broad range of learning and development experience gained from a long career in Central Government and the Local Council sector as well as working as a self-employed Training and HR Consultant.  He has delivered and managed leadership development programmes, management training, coaching and mentoring and achieved Chartered membership of CIPD in 2009.  His style is highly participative and he has a passion for transferring learning back to workplace by action planning.  Clive is qualified to use a wide range of psychometric tools and is an accredited user of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).  He was a Clerk in a medium sized Town Council for five years and currently works for the SLCC as the Associate Manager for Local Council Consulting.

 

Delegate Fees:

If your clerk attends, subsequent bookings for the same course from members of the council may attend at the member rate.
