Vacancy for The Clerk to the Council
 
Hours of work will be 29.6hrs per week over 4 days & will be office based.
 
Salary will be National Joint Council LC 3 SCP 33/35 dependant on qualifications & experience.
 
This is an exciting opportunity for a proven leader, innovator and communicator to take on the role of managing council services and the dedicated and hard-working staff team.
 
The Clerk to the Council will be the Proper Officer of the council and as such is under a statutory duty to carry out all the functions, and in particular to serve or issue all the notifications required by law of a local authority's proper officer.
 
We have 17 elected Members & employ 9 staff including a deputy clerk & provide a wide range services to our community.
 
Our new clerk, will have a pivotal role to play as we move forward and will have to demonstrate clear leadership abilities and have a sound understanding of our sector and the opportunities which lie ahead.
 
Candidates should have:
  • Certificate in Local Council Administration (CILCA) or be willing to obtain it.
  • A good working knowledge and understanding of local council structures and practices and the
  • ability to recognise political/legal consequences of decisions being agreed by members
  • Proven and highly developed leadership and management skills
  • An ability to work evenings when the council or its committees meet
  • Good IT skills
