Clerk to the Council & Responsible Financial Officer

Applications must be returned by 04/06/2020 16:00

Bishop’s Itchington Parish Council is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced person to fill the dual role of clerk and responsible financial officer starting at the beginning of August 2020, or earlier if possible, to enable a handover period with the current clerk.

The parish council has 10 seats and the current year’s budget is £97,577. The electorate is 1,850 but this will increase to nearly 2,500 over the next couple of years on completion of two new housing developments currently under construction. This is an exciting time for the parish council as we look to provide new and improved facilities for our growing population, and work to integrate the new developments with the existing community.

The clerk plays a central role in the council’s business. Reporting directly to the council, they oversee the whole administration and implement all the council’s decisions. As RFO, they are also responsible for the management of all aspects of the council’s finances.

Managing a small team of part-time non-office staff, the clerk is based at the council’s office located in the centre of the village. The office is open to the public for several hours each week when the clerk is on hand to deal with face to face enquiries from the public.

Ideally, the successful candidate will already hold the Certificate in Local Council Administration or be willing to work towards the qualification within 12 months. Previous management and administration experience, including keeping accounts and preparing budgets, is essential.

The closing date for applications is 5.00pm on Thursday, 4 June 2020.

An application pack can be downloaded from www.bishopsitchington-pc.gov.uk or by emailing [email protected]

For an informal chat, please contact the clerk on 01926 613902.

Interviews will be held during the week commencing 15 June 2020.
