Responsible Financial Officer (RFO)

We have an exciting opportunity for a RFO to join our team. Chiddingfold is a village/parish of ten square miles and a population of 3,000 in the Borough of Waverley, Surrey and within the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  It is a thriving village with a strong community spirit and is served by excellent transport links.  The parish council consists of nine councillors supported by a full time Clerk and has an office located centrally on the village green.

We are offering a part-time position of ten hours per week and a salary of £14.50 per hour (Spinal point 24 on the LCP pay scales), with benefits which include the Local Government Association pension scheme, annual leave (pro rata) and flexible working, home or office based. A national pay award is outstanding for the 2021/22 year.

Role & Responsibilities
You will need to be both financially and computer literate with a good knowledge of Excel and accounting principles as you will be responsible for all aspects of the Council’s accounts, including monthly bank reconciliations and accounts reporting, Payroll, VAT returns, invoicing, annual budgeting setting and statutory Audit Commission returns. The RFO will provide administrative support for the finance committee.

Key requirements of the successful candidate
You will be well organised and have good administrative, communication and IT skills, and ideally experience in finance and budget control. You will need a community focus, be a team player and be willing to support the council in delivering quality services and projects for the benefit of our local community.

Previous Local Government or public sector experience is desirable but not essential, as training will be given with the opportunity of gaining a nationally recognised qualification and furthering your career in local government administration.
