Position: Town Clerk to Shepton Mallet Town Council

Hours: 30 to 37 per week

Shepton Mallet Town Council are seeking a new Town Clerk. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and proactive with excellent organisation, leadership and administrative skills. They will have the ability to develop staff and manage resources effectively and have a good knowledge of local government as well as an understanding of the issues facing the public sector.

The Town Council has 5 committees, and administers 3 charities. The office oversees the Council offices, Collett Park, a recreation area, community woodland and 3 allotment sites. It is an exciting time to be joining the Town Council as there are a range of projects being implemented. Shepton Mallet is one of the many towns in Somerset that will benefit and grow from Somerset restricting to become a ‘unitary authority’.

The successful candidate should hold the CiLCA qualification or work toward achieving the qualification, have demonstrable experience in managing a vibrant organisation working productively with councillors and have a good working knowledge of current legislation affecting this sector. They must be able to form strong partnerships with the community and local authorities and be able to motivate and influence others.
