Time Published 3rd February 2021

Marion Goodman has been appointed as the first Town Clerk of the new Northampton Town Council which, serving a population of 130,000 is the largest local council in England and Wales. Marion is currently Director for Customers and Communities and Interim Assistant Chief Executive at Northampton Borough Council. Councillor Jane Birch, who chaired the Appointments Panel, told last week’s Council meeting that the position had attracted a lot of interest, a rigorous assessment process had taken place over a two-day period and the Panel’s decision to recommend Marion as the Town Clerk had been unanimous.

Commenting upon her appointment Marion said that it had been ‘a privilege and an honour to serve as an officer for the Borough Council’, and she was appreciative of the opportunity to continue to serve Councillors and the people of Northampton as Town Clerk. She was looking forward to building effective relationships with all the other Town and Parish Councils within the area and businesses, as well as helping Northampton Town Council deliver on all its aspirations for the town.

Marion starts her now role on 1st April and will be initially employed in the position of Town Clerk (Designate) to work alongside current Acting Town Clerk, Richard Walden, before assuming the substantive role of Town Clerk in May.
