Government plans to "re-invent" and celebrate Britain's high streets and build a "stronger, fairer" post-Brexit Britain have been unveiled, as Communities and Local Government Secretary James Brokenshire confirmed plans to rejuvenate England's struggling town centres at the Locality Convention in Bristol.
Thousands of empty shops will be converted into homes and social hubs, and there will be a project to spotlight local community projects, as well as a drive to get more workers volunteering in their areas. Mr Brokenshire’s department will also work alongside the Prince of Wales's Business in the Community charity to support firms offering employees volunteering opportunities, and to promote better integration between people from different backgrounds.
