No referendum principles for English Parishes for the next three years

Published 20th December 2017

When presenting the Local Government finance settlement to the House of Commons yesterday, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government announced “that the government intends to defer the setting of referendum principles for town and parish councils for 3 three years”.

Commenting upon the announcement, SLCC Chief Executive, Rob Smith, said: “This early Christmas present for town and parish councils in England is a tribute to all those who supported SLCC’s representations and those of our partners at NALC. Most importantly, the announcement will allow local councils to prepare prudent medium term financial plans for delivering important local services with certainty for the next three years”.
