100 years ago Parliament passed a law which allowed the first women and all men, to vote for the first time.
SLCC, as the professional body representing chief officers to over 5,000 town, parish and community councils in England and Wales and in which over 70% of whom are women, is proud to celebrate this milestone and the continuing contribution of women in public service.
Today, SLCC is chaired by a woman, Katherine Owen, who said: "We have so much to be grateful for, I am one of the privileged ones having the honour of chairing SLCC. I do this whilst honouring those who fought and sacrificed to enable it to happen."
