Rother District Council will be meeting on 18th December to decide the future governance of Bexhill. Options under consideration following a community governance review include the creation of a new Town Council. With a population of approximately 45,000 council this would be the largest local council in East Sussex. However the issue is generating such interest in the town that it has been decided to allocate tickets for the public gallery on a first come first served basis. The meeting will also be live streamed to a nearby church hall.
Malcolm Johnston, the council’s executive director of resources, said: “The governance review has generated a huge amount of interest among people in Bexhill. We know there will be high demand to attend the meeting, so issuing tickets will enable us to control that demand and avoid people turning up on the night and being disappointed. The live screening at the church hall means that anyone who wants to watch the proceedings will be able to do so.”
