Unite urges rejection of 2% pay offer

Published 15th January 2018

The Unite trade union (one of three unions representing the staff side of the National Joint Council) has recommended that local government workers and school support staff reject a pay offer of 2% this year and another 2% from next year, and will ballot its members.

Unite National Officer, Jim Kennedy said pay freezes had resulted in real terms pay cuts of 21% since 2010 and that the union “did not believe the offer will result in enough members receiving a pay increase at least in line with inflation”. Councillor Sian Timoney, Chair of the National Employers, has expressed her disappointment at the news.
