24 March 2025

SLCC’s 2022 – 24 Community Governance students celebrated their SLCC graduation ceremony at Newbury Town Council’s town hall on Friday, 21 March 2025. The event marked a significant milestone for the students, who were joined by their families and many of SLCC’s teaching team, including Angie Hurren BEM FSLCC, Community Governance Programme Leader, Community Governance senior support tutors Johnathan Bourne FSLCC & Elisabeth Skinner MBE FSLCC, and module tutors Sheridan Jacklin-Edward FSLCC, Sally Thurston FSLCC, Cally Morris FSLCC, and Dr James Derounian.

On the day, Gina Lopes PSLCC, SLCC President, presented 17 students with their well-earned certificates, recognising their hard work and dedication. In total, 29 certificates were awarded across levels 4, 5, and 6 for the 2022-24 cohort.

In addition to the certificates, Gina presented two recipients with special awards. The Wendy Mayo Prize, awarded to the student with the highest mark for a piece of work at level 4, went to Ross Green for his outstanding Community Profile of Brixham, Devon. The Pauline Whitehead Perseverance Award, given to a student who successfully completed the year despite significant personal challenges, was presented to Linda Ranger FSLCC from St Stephen-in-Brannel, Cornwall.

Rob Smith, SLCC Chief Executive, who was also in attendance, praised the graduates, saying: ‘SLCC’s Community Governance programme is the foundation stone of our commitment to raising professional standards in our sector and so it was a pleasure and a privilege to join our graduating students to celebrate their success. Congratulations to all of them and heartfelt thanks to our hard working and dedicated teaching team.’
