What is SLCC?

SLCC is the professional body for clerks of town, parish and community councils and we currently represent over 5,000 town, parish and community councils across England and Wales.

Founded in 1972, our mission is to provide training, guidance, advice and support to members so that they can develop the professional skills, knowledge and experience necessary for them to best serve their councils and communities; and through this develop the overall recognition and status of their profession.

The Clerk magazine

One of the key advantages of SLCC membership is our bi-monthly magazine, ‘The Clerk’. This exclusive publication is our primary communication channel with members, making it highly valued and frequently retained. With a circulation exceeding 3,600 clerks, representing over 5,000 councils, our reach is extensive. Most of our members manage annual budgets ranging from £100,000 to £250,000.

Our members oversee a wide range of community assets and services, including allotments, parks and recreation grounds, waste bins, play equipment, cemeteries, community centres, markets, football grounds, street lighting, grass cutting, public toilets, war memorials, and more.
