Overview

As local councils continue to modernise and deliver increasingly ambitious outcomes, the role of programme managers is evolving. This entry-level series is designed to support those new to programme management, as well as self-taught or experienced project managers stepping up to coordinate multiple projects within a strategic framework.

Programme management is about more than overseeing individual projects—it’s about delivering wider organisational change. With a focus on structure, consistency and results, this three-part training series introduces the tools and techniques needed to manage complex programmes from initiation to closure.

You’ll explore how to monitor outputs across multiple projects, manage budgets, and prioritise resources to keep everything on track. The series will also cover how to develop detailed programme roadmaps and implement effective communication and stakeholder plans.

Whether you’re completely new to programme management or looking to formalise your knowledge, this course will provide practical strategies to help you confidently lead programmes that support your council’s long-term objectives.

Key topics include:

  • Understanding the role and responsibilities of a programme manager
  • Coordinating projects and balancing resources
  • Monitoring outputs and managing programme budgets
  • Building effective roadmaps and timelines
  • Communicating across teams and stakeholders
  • Suitable for: new, experienced, and self-taught project managers looking to expand into programme-level coordination.
