Bourne wins Cemetery of the Year

21 October 2019

Many congratulations to Bourne Town Council in Lincolnshire which has been awarded the gold medal for best cemetery maintained by a town, parish or community council at the 2019 Cemetery of the Year Awards. Forest Row and Chesham Bois PCs received silver awards at the presentation during the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management (ICCM) Conference last week.

The special local council category was introduced for the first time this year with the support of SLCC. Ian Sismey, Town Clerk to Bourne, will be explaining more about his council’s success in the January edition of The Clerk magazine.

Philip Potts of the Cemetery of the Year Awards said; “The awards offer an excellent opportunity to reward hard-working staff and demonstrate the central role cemeteries and church yards can play in the community. The competition is structured to allow ALL entrants to measure their cemetery against other cemeteries in their category, in areas such as Industry Standards, Memorial Registration Schemes and Freedom of Choice.” The competition is free to enter for all local councils in England and Wales.
