Changes to Permitted Development Rights in England

2 January 2022

The government has announced that some planning measures originally introduced during the pandemic in England will now be made permanent.

These are:

  1. Allowing markets to be held by or on behalf of local councils for an unlimited amount of days, without the need for planning approval.
  2. Similarly, pubs, cafes and restaurants will now be able to install gazebos on their own land without planning permission.

Note: it is assumed that all references to ‘local councils’ includes town and parish councils, however, we are seeking clarification.
