Cllr Keith Stevens Takes Over as Chair of NALC

10 December 2021

On 23 November 2021, the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) announced that Cllr Keith Stevens, East Sussex Association of Local Councils, was elected as the new chair.

On 8 December 2021, Cllr Keith Stevens took over the role from Cllr Sue Baxter, Worcestershire Association of Local Councils, who was appointed as the vice-president by NALC’s Annual General Meeting. Cllr Baxter will continue to play an active role in NALC’s work and recently addressed delegates in her keynote speech at the Future Communities 2021 online conference, ‘I’m particularly grateful for everything you have done over the last challenging eighteen months. Clerks, council staff, councillors, volunteers and partner organisations. You were at the forefront of the response to the crisis, never more needed, keeping our communities running. Councils, county associations, NALC and the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC). All stood together to support each other and our communities. Because put simply… we all want the same thing.’

Cllr Baxter then went on to say, ‘I’m thrilled to have been appointed as a vice president and able to continue to serve you all and support Cllr Stevens in any way that I can. I know he will do a fantastic job and I ask you all to support him just as you have supported me.’

Rob Smith, SLCC Chief Executive, wrote to Cllr Baxter on behalf of SLCC and its members to express gratitude and appreciation for all her work for the sector throughout her term of office.

SLCC now look forward to working closely with Cllr Keith Stevens to continue the excellent job done by Cllr Baxter.
