Challenges & Opportunities for Local Council / Principal Council Relations
Monica Fogarty, Joint Managing Director, Warwickshire County Council
Warwickshire has three tiers of local government, including 203 town and parish councils, 5 district and borough councils (one borough is unparished) and the county council so the local democratic landscape is complex, varied and vibrant.
The county council greatly values its relationship with town and parish councils, recognising that positive and regular dialogue is key to engaging residents at a grass-roots level and building a strong sense of community spirit.  We have a framework in place to support this, including investing in Warwickshire Association of Local Councils specifically to build capacity within town and parish councils to be strong community leaders - we know there is a wealth of skill, knowledge and commitment within our local councils and we are committed to enable this to flourish.

Preparing for the Unexpected
Annie Child PSLCC, City Clerk, Salisbury City Council
Using the Salisbury poisoning incident as an example, Annie will consider how a local council can prepare for the unexpected by building resilience and skills in the staff team and councillors.
