How do you bring your community with you on the journey to a zero carbon future?
It’s one of the biggest challenges facing local authorities, sub regional bodies such as combined authorities, and national government, yet parish and town councils operate at a scale that is ideal for having meaningful conversations with residents about climate change, in a way that larger councils cannot.
This webinar will introduce some proven methods of engaging communities on climate change, which take advantage of the grassroots reach of parish and town councils.
It will also cover:
- How to develop a social media campaign to raise awareness of a parish/town council’s climate emergency declaration and ongoing work, keeping the community involved and up to date.
- Messaging and channels that are appropriate for different audiences (e.g. younger vs older residents), and how to engage with hard to reach members of the community.
- An introduction to the data sets that CSE hold that can be made available to local councils, helping them to target their communications through a more nuanced understanding of the socio-demographic profile of their area.
About the Trainers
Bella Peatfield, Communications Officer
Bella joined CSE in January 2019 to support all aspects of CSE’s organisational / project-based communications, and is experienced at creating and delivering multi-channel campaigns. Previously she led the digital marketing & communications for The Jo Cox Foundation’s national campaign – The Great Get Together. In her former marketing roles, Bella specialised in social media and content strategy development, gaining experience in campaign analytics, design, website management, copywriting and event management.
Megan Blyth, Senior Project Worker
Megan has experience in quantitative and qualitative research and analysis, literature review and communication around the topics of environment, society and energy. Megan is primarily involved in CSE’s youth programme: mentoring young participants, research, recruitment, updating the website and social media account, and producing engagement and training materials. She’s also led the development phase of CSE’s climate emergency support programme for parishes, through identifying networks of local councils and giving presentations to local groups.
