Statutory Training Plans and Self-Evaluation Toolkit

Statutory Training Plans – Kevin Griffiths, Welsh Government & Paul Egan, One Voice Wales (OVW)

The Local Government and Elections (Wales) Act 2021 introduced a duty on community and town councils to publish training plans, taking effect from May 2022. This session will provide an overview of the legislative context and provide practical advice on preparing a training plan. Paul Egan will cover the core competencies of community and town councillors and how One Voice Wales can support councils in ensuring these are met.

Self-Evaluation Toolkit – Mark Galbraith, SLCC Wales Policy Liaison Officer, Kevin Griffiths, Welsh Government, & Paul Egan, One Voice Wales (OVW)

This session will take a detailed look at the Self-Evaluation Toolkit, now available for community and town councils in Wales.

This toolkit has been developed jointly between One Voice Wales, SLCC, and Welsh Government, with advice from Audit Wales. The toolkit will support community and town councils in Wales to review the financial management, governance and accountability arrangements they have in place, consider how effective these arrangements are, and how they might be improved.

Feedback from Training Seminars in 2021

‘This was the best training event I have ever attended. The content was on target and explained beautifully. Bargain price for the knowledge and expertise imparted. And whilst we do not have the face to face experience, I also managed to deal with some emergency situations throughout the day so being in the ‘office’ was really useful.’
Helen Griffiths, Chalfont St Giles Parish Council

‘Although I missed meeting colleagues in person and the inevitable gain from networking, holding the Regional Training Seminar virtually worked really well.  The programme was fast paced and without travelling the day was shorter so there was the opportunity to keep on top of work.  A win-win situation!’
Julie Larter FSLCC, St Austell Bay Parish Council

‘To do these training sessions virtually is so much easier as you don’t have to give up a whole day. You can listen in to those sessions of most interest/use, and do others things whilst the other sessions are being held. Thank you, I have a back ground in planning and deal with the planning aspects at work, so the planning session was of particular interest to me.’
Helen Ferdinand, Yeovil Town Council

‘Excellent program covering useful topics, lots of useful information.
Philip Peacock PSLCC, Huntingdon Town Council
