Preparing for an ageing population – what can local councils do? Census 2021 data showed that our population is ageing. In the last 40 years, the number of people aged 50 and over has increased by over 6.8 million (a 47% increase), and nearly 1 in 5 of us are currently aged 65 and over. Over the next twenty years that will become 1 in 4. We need to act now to make the most of the opportunities, and combat the challenges, of this change. Local councils have a key role to play in making their communities a better place to age. Join this session to hear how others are approaching this change and adopting the Age-friendly Communities approach to consider their older residents in strategies, plans and initiatives.
