Government Launches New Drive to Support Rural Communities

20 June 2023

The government has announced a series of measures aimed at supporting rural communities.  These include:

  • A new £7 million fund to test out new ways to bring together satellite, wireless and fixed line internet connectivity
  • To support the delivery of affordable housing, a network of new “Rural Housing Enablers”, backed by £2.5m of funding, will act as honest brokers between developers and communities
  • Plans to consult on changing planning rules to make it easier for farmers to change their redundant agricultural buildings into family homes

More information about the drive, which are detailed in a publication called “Unleashing Rural Opportunity”, can be found at Government launches new drive to support rural communities – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
