Invitation to Participate in Community Governance Research Studies

28 May 2025

Please help support our Community Governance students with their dissertations by completing their short research questionnaires, detailed below:

Katherine Doughty FSLCC, Clerk to Faringdon Town Council, is looking into mental health and wellbeing of local council clerks in England. Her questionnaire seeks to understand ‘whether reports by clerk colleagues and social media sites are representative of clerks’ mental ill-health across the sector, that might suggest it is at risk of losing talented staff’; and ‘whether there are key themes or issues that clerks are experiencing which could suggest further research for finding solutions / improvements.’

Please access Katherine’s questionnaire here.

Celia Price FSLCC, Clerk to Lancing Parish Council, is exploring how professional networking affects the effectiveness, well-being and confidence of town and parish clerks across England. Whether you are actively involved in networking or not, your insights are invaluable in helping understand current practices, challenges and opportunities.

Please access Celia’s questionnaire here.

Debbie Baines PSLCC, Clerk to Tenterden Town Council, who’s focusing on local council clerks in Kent and asks whether they judge their work as good or satisfying, and seeks to understand why that is the case. Survey results will be used to support understanding and generate recommendations for clerks, councils and the sector, as to what makes for good and satisfying work.

Please access Debbie’s questionnaire here.

Please note: Participation in these surveys is completely voluntary. Responses will remain confidential and anonymous. Your submission of a completed survey indicates your agreement to take part.
