Abbots Langley Parish Council is seeking to appoint a Chief Officer and Clerk to the Council, as the current post holder is retiring in the Autumn after fourteen years’ service.

The parish council is political, has fifteen elected members and a staff complement of fifteen full time, part time and casual events staff. With a budget of around £1.0m and in a normal year trading income of £200k, it the largest parish council in Hertfordshire.

The parish is mixed, urban and rural with mainly commercial businesses. There has been significant development over the past twenty years on the legacy sites of Leavesden Aerodrome and Leavesden Hospital. Proximity to London, the M1/M25, with excellent local and national rail services means the parish has a significant commuter population. Hertfordshire is a county often overlooked, as somewhere people just pass through, some of the countryside in the Chess Valley is comparable to the best in the country.

Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, its globally important film production facilities and The Making of Harry Potter Studio Tour are based on the western side of the parish.

The parish council is sound financially and administratively. If you would like to manage a varied and significant workload, along with juggling daily priorities, then this may be the role for you.

With challenges for the parish council as it returns to a new normal, this exciting role will be ideal for someone who is capable of leading a supportive team in order to achieve the needs of our residents.

With sound financial and commercial skills, you will be able to present clear and concise information to our members. You will need to be resilient, resourceful and have excellent MS Excel skills. Support will be provided if you do not yet hold the CiLCA qualification, it will be a condition of employment that you achieve the qualification in 2022.

In return, we offer a competitive package ranging from £55,684-£62,779 plus London Inner Fringe allowance of £898. Benefits include eligibility for the Local Government Pension Scheme, generous annual leave entitlement and essential user car allowance. Although this full time role will be principally office based, flexible working arrangements may be available.

Our current Chief Officer, Tim Perkins, is available for informal discussions, he can be contacted on [email protected] or 01923 265139.

Closing date for applications is Monday 7th June 2020 (08:00). An application form and any supporting documents to be submitted to [email protected].

Whilst arrangements are subject to confirmation, it is planned to carry out virtual shortlist interviews w/c 21st June 2021 and final attended interviews w/c 28th June 2021.
