Southwell is a historic town in Nottinghamshire, with a population of 8,000. Situated 9 miles west of Newark, Southwell is an affluent area, home to a stunning Minster cathedral, several churches, the original Bramley apple tree, a race course, a sought-after secondary school, a number of tourist attractions and a charming high street of independent shops.

Southwell Town Council is looking for an experienced Town Clerk to take on the role of Proper Officer and Responsible Financial Officer.  This post is for 30- 34 hours per week, which will include some evening meetings.

The successful candidate will work actively with elected members and be responsible for ensuring the instructions of the council are carried out. S/he will manage the services that the council provides; lead a team of 6 staff members; and liaise with a wide range of stakeholders, including residents, community groups, local businesses and external organisations. S/he will be responsible for all financial activities of the council.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong management skills, combined with the ability to think strategically. A Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) is essential as is experience of local government organisation and procedures. A degree or equivalent is desirable.

We’re looking for a professional, self-motivated person with demonstrable leadership qualities, a service-orientated mind-set and excellent communication skills.

Hours: 30 – 34, including some evenings.

The salary is on NJC levels LC2 scale 29- 32 pro rata.
