About us and the role

We are a Parish Council located just outside of Aylesbury and in the heart of Buckinghamshire, with great links to Thame and Oxford via the A418. With a population of around 3000, we are a small but ever-growing parish with 9 councillors with a focus on community, family and trying to make the parish accessible and appealing to all ages and cultures. We take pride in looking after our recreation grounds, children’s play areas, footpaths, Eythrope Cemetery and excellent social and sports facilities. Our Jubilee Pavilion provides a modern and safe environment for any kind of gathering, including our monthly Parish Council Meetings.

We are looking for a Parish Clerk and Responsible Finance Officer who will be responsible for the administration of the Council. The role is part-time with work mostly being done from home with some work required in the evenings for monthly Council meetings. You will also be required to occasionally meet and liaise with people within the Parish, so it is necessary for you to be within reasonable travel distance.

As the Council’s Proper Officer you will be responsible for all aspects of council operations including the making sure the council fulfils any obligations regarding legal, statutory, and other provisions governing or affecting the running of the Council. You will work alongside the Assistant Clerk to deliver the goals and objectives set by the Council. You will be the main point of contact for the Council, dealing with residents and contractors and leading on projects.

About you

The role of a parish clerk is very varied so we are looking for someone with excellent communication skills who can manage multiple tasks and priorities and is willing to work flexibly as part of a friendly team of staff and councillors. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate they understand the requirements of the role which includes a level of literacy and numeracy necessary to prepare high quality records and reports and maintain a basic set of accounts. Full training including CiLCA will be supported and encouraged.

Closing date for applications: 29 January 2024

Interviews: will be held on 1 February 2024

Start date negotiable but as soon as possible.
