Shrewsbury Town Council is the largest town council in Shropshire and one of the largest in the country with a population of over 70,000. It is overseen by 17 councillors, including the Mayor, across 17 wards.

The council is seeking to appoint a forward-thinking Deputy Town Clerk who can work within a close Corporate Management Team alongside the Town Clerk taking overall responsibility for the town council’s HR, Administration, Planning, Youth Service Functions; Estates & Capital Project Management as well as deputising for the town clerk in her absence. Strong leadership qualities are essential in order to help the council develop strategically.

This is a particularly exciting time for the town council as its roles and functions expand. We are therefore looking for an excellent team-builder to enthuse and motivate an expanding team.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in team management and HR practices and issues, good understanding of the role and functions of a progressive town council and above all a proactive attitude to getting things done.

You will be CiLCA qualified or be willing to obtain the qualification within 12 months of appointment.

Whilst most of working hours will be office-based during the week, there will be a need to be flexible to attend council meetings and events outside of your normal working hours including occasional weekends.
