Shepton Mallet Town Council is an ambitious council seeking a Deputy Town Clerk who has experience in performing the duties of the Council’s Responsible Financial Officer as well as engaging with the community to deliver its exciting Town Plan.


You will have sound financial management as well as bookkeeping skills and will deal with all financial and business processes.  You will play a key role in developing and implementing a business plan for the Council, as well as administering the Council’s financial affairs in accordance with proper practices.


In addition, you will strengthen relations with community groups, residents, and other public authorities and manage all the communications distributed by the town council.  You will also be able to present information to councillors with the support of the Town Clerk at committee meetings.

You should be able to demonstrate, via your application form and the interview, that you possess the following:

  • Sound working knowledge of local government financial systems
  • Experience of budgeting, payroll, GDPR and implementing policy and procedures
  • Community engagement experience

Working 25 – 30 hours per week you will be part of a small, friendly team based in offices alongside those of Mendip District Council.
