External Affairs & Policy Development Manager

We are excited to announce the creation of the new position of External Affairs & Policy Development Manager. The role will take responsibility for building SLCC’s external affairs capability, maintaining and building upon our relationships with key partners and external stakeholders, and supporting the development of SLCC’s strategic priorities and actions.

About the Role

The role is offered at 15 hours per week at SCP 37-41 (pro rata) and will report to the Chief Executive.

Regularly presenting to our Board of Directors and National Forum, you will work closely with the Board’s External Affairs Working Group to develop and define SLCC’s policy and priorities. You will also work closely with the Executive team to ensure that all of SLCC’s services and offerings are aligned and supportive of policy.

You will be a confident, credible and informed communicator with excellent presentation and engagement skills. You will have significant experience of the role of the clerk and the local council sector, as well as a solid understanding of local government, the wider political environment and, ideally, the workings of government agencies and bodies.
