Job Purpose

Weymouth Town Council is one of the largest Town Councils in the country.  It has a range of services from the beach, esplanade, parks, gardens and events to cemeteries, public toilets and allotments.

At the heart of our Council is our Greenspaces team and we are seeking a Greenspaces Manager who would be responsible for the day to day delivery, supervision and operation of our parks, gardens, play areas, allotments, cemeteries and amenity space. As well as legal compliance, routine inspection and people management to achieve Council priorities and high quality services. You will be working closely with other Council teams including resort, projects, finance, health and safety, and communications to deliver key outcomes.

Weymouth has a population of 54,000 people and the Greenspaces service covers an area of around 80 hectares. We are extremely proud of our parks and open spaces and the value they bring to communities from a wide range of perspectives, including recreation, relaxation, biodiversity, economy, education, heritage and health & well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Day-to-day management of teams and workplans to ensure all our greenspaces are safe, accessible, legally run, and managed well.
  2. Ensuring resources across the team support all elements of the service to achieve service plan outcomes.
  3. Ensure supportive supervision of the greenspaces team and comply with relevant policies and procedures, such as equal opportunities, diversity, sickness reporting, discipline and grievance procedures.
  4. Support service planning and development, ensuring change is well managed and innovation supported.
  5. Ensure that a risk management culture is maintained including ensuring safe working practices, risk assessments, and effective incident monitoring.
  6. Work with wider Council teams to deliver specific projects, consultations and communications.
  7. To lead on the delivery of smaller projects in relation to greenspaces spaces, ensuring they are completed to time and budget.
  8. Represent the Council at external partnership meetings.
  9. To support the Amenities Manager in service planning, risk management, workforce development, budget management and reporting to Council.
  10. Completing and submitting relevant funding applications
  11. The duties and responsibilities of the post are not restrictive and the post holder may be required to undertake other duties from time to time.  Any such duties should not, however, substantially change the general character of the post.
