About the SLCC

Founded in 1972, the Society of Local Council Clerks (SLCC) is the professional membership organisation for approximately 4,000 local council clerks and senior council employees working for over 5,000 town, parish and community councils in England and Wales. As their professional body, we ensure that our members are equipped with the necessary knowledge, training, and skills to thrive in their role and, in turn, to best support their councils and communities.

We have created the new position of Head of Member Services to ensure that our member services continue to be relevant, valuable, attractive and current. This role is therefore central to the future development of SLCC and will play a pivotal role in the development and delivery of our business strategy.

About the job

Ensuring that SLCC is meeting the needs of its members is the core purpose of this newly created, senior management role. You will take ownership of SLCC’s membership offer including our advisory service, professional development scheme, mentoring programme and branches.

As a key member of the executive team you will work closely with our Heads of Marketing & Communications, and Conferences, Training & Education and be responsible for championing the needs of our members and ensuring that everything SLCC delivers is in line with our members’ ever increasing expectations.

We are looking for someone who will never rest on their laurels – instead, they will be looking ahead to developments, not only in the sector, but more widely so we are always one step ahead. Your ability to listen to members, understand their key issues and concerns and then respond with the development of innovative offers and services will be central to your success. In short, we are looking for someone with strategic vision who can translate that into delivering high quality, relevant services to our members which add value.

You will report to the Chief Executive, and be offered an attractive remuneration package, including a salary of circa £45k, plus other benefits including a generous pension scheme.
