Newquay Town Council is seeking an experienced and proactive HR Officer to join our team. This pivotal role will support the Council in managing and administering key HR functions, projects and initiatives.

As our HR Officer, you will:

  • Assist with administering organisational changes, collating feedback and recommendations
  • Support managers through employee relations processes like grievances, disciplinaries, and engagement
  • Administer recruitment, advise on best practices, and facilitate fair selection
  • Review and recommend updates to HR policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance
  • Help coordinate training programmes and support employee development initiatives
  • Maintain accurate HR records and data in our systems

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • At least 2 years of professional HR experience in roles such as HR Administrator/Adviser
  • Knowledge of employment laws and best practices in HR management
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively at all levels
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities to assess HR metrics and propose solutions
  • Tech proficiency in HR software and tools
  • Organisational skills to prioritise a varied workload
  • A caring, empathetic approach to supporting employee wellbeing
  • Prior local authority and employee relations experience is advantageous. A relevant HR degree or professional qualifications like CIPD are desirable.
