Hours: 37 hours per week over 7 days.  This includes some evening work and occasional weekend working.

Location: Based at the Ferndown Town Council offices in Ferndown, Dorset.

The Town Council is seeking an experienced Centre/Events manager for at least a 6 month period to cover maternity leave.

You will have a proven track record in events management which involves regular hall bookings, theatre bookings and organising events on behalf of the Council. You will posees excellent customer service skills and have a positive can do attitude in a sometimes stressful environment.

To develop, implement and have overall responsibility for a comprehensive, balanced programme of events and activities that will develop the Centre into an ambitious and exciting theatre in the area and a thriving community hub for our residents and local groups.

  1. To manage the day to day centres operations, ensuring that the building is securely opened and locked in accordance with the Town Council diary of meetings and hall/theatre bookings. Supervise duty managers and appoint temporary staff with SIA Licence to ensure sufficient cover ratio for events.
  2. To manage and keep within budget, ensuring stock is ordered regularly in accordance with financial regulations and oversee stock takes.
  3. Cash handling and banking of money.
  4. To manage the day-to-day operations at the Centre, including theatre programme, events, hire, projects and administration (including box office and bar).
  5. To manage the Barrington Centre staff and supervise contractors and volunteers.
  6. To oversee the Barrington Café and Bar to ensure it meets any licensing and environment health requirements.
  7. To ensure that all Health and Safety requirements for running a busy centre are compliant at all times.
  8. Attend the Barrington Centre Committee meetings and produce reports to keep Counicllors aware of the activities taking place and relevant financial information.
  9. To work closely with the Town Clerk and relevant Officers to ensure there is a continuity of service at all times.

Working and physical conditions :The work is based at the Barrington Centre. It may be necessary to liaise with contractors and staff regarding issues at the Centre and will involve physical activity, working at height and the wearing of protective clothing to avoid dust, dirt, grease etc. The Centre is a no smoking work area. The job is not specifically physically demanding but may involve lifting, carrying and working at heights of up to 3.5m from the floor level both internally and externally. Evening attendance at Committee meetings and evening/weekend attendance at events will be required.
