Cheddar is a busy parish with the Mendip hills to the north and the Somerset Levels to the south. It has a resident population of around 6,000 and many more visitors to its famous gorge throughout the year.

The council wishes to appoint an energetic and self-motivated individual to manage its business and to carry out all aspects of its financial administration. The ideal candidate will have good organisational, numeracy and computer skills, be a good communicator and should be CiLCA qualified or willing to study for this qualification.

Hours: Full time, permanent – 37 hours per week (including some regular evening meetings).

Salary: In the range £27,905-31,371, dependent upon experience and qualifications, plus local government pension scheme.

Cheddar has a precept of £165,000. It owns and manages three allotment sites, two playing fields, a cemetery, three public buildings, and historic monuments. The council liaises closely with a number of community groups and the chamber of commerce.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing its services and two staff members (part-time assistant clerk and sports pavilion caretaker) plus external contractors. The person appointed will also be closely involved with several major projects which the council is undertaking, adding to the interest and reward of the role.
