Yeovil Without Parish Council is seeking to appoint a new Parish Clerk with Responsible Financial Officer duties.

Yeovil Without is a large Parish set to and adjoining the north of Yeovil with a population of around 9,000. This forward thinking-council, currently has a small percentage stakes in the local crematorium, manages one play park and looks to deliver improved services year on year for its residents. The Clerk currently works from home with all of their office requirements provided but there is potential for a community based office in the future. The Council holds monthly meetings (except August) plus regular meetings some committees. Yeovil Without has a precept of just shy of £150,000 and 15 councillors set across 4 wards.

In April 2023, the four Somerset district councils, together with Somerset County Council, will combine to form one new unitary authority and as a consequence of this, Yeovil Without Parish Council will have a considerably increased future role to play in delivering services to the community, and the new Parish Clerk will be at the heart of this.

The excellent nationally based terms and conditions of employment for this full-time post reflects the importance the council is placing on appointing an individual of the highest calibre.

The Council is seeking highly organised and committed applicants for this key role, which is responsible for all day-to-day organisation and management of the Council’s services, facilities and finances. This is a demanding position and high profile postion in the Parish and you will need vision, a high level of motivation, excellent time-management, administrative, inter-personal, accounting and IT skills in order to work successfully with staff, Councillors, external organisations, stakeholders and the community.

Experience of Local Government, including formal Committee work and implementation of Council policies would be ideal but by no means essential. The experience and skills to lead and the ability to work professionally and impartially with elected members is, however, essential. The successful applicant will hold, or be prepared to work towards, the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA)

The post is full-time (37 hours per week) and some evening meeting attendance is required.

Candidates should ensure they are available to attend on these days should they be selected for interview at each stage.

Yeovil Without Parish Council is an Equal Opportunity Employer and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
