To cover a period of maternity leave, Chartham Parish Council is seeking to appoint a Parish Clerk & RFO from September 2023 to support the elected Councillors in achieving their aims and aspirations for the Council.

Contracted to 37.5 hours a week, and working from the Parish Office located in Chartham Village Hall, the Clerk will have responsibility for ensuring that the instructions of the Council are carried out and will work actively with the elected Councillors accordingly. The successful candidate will support a parish council of 11 Councillors and engage with a lively semi-rural community.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have relevant or local government experience, a commitment to public service, be motivated, community focused, and possess sound communication and organisational skills.

Chartham Parish Council also manages a cemetery. There are approximately 12-15 funerals a year and the successful candidate will be required to liaise with funeral directors, and in some cases families, to arrange and attend funerals.  The successful candidate with also be required to liaise with stone masons in relation to memorial applications. Training can be provided if required.

Candidates should have a knowledge of local government law and procedures and preferably hold the CiLCA or ILCA qualification. Attendance at evening meetings will be required and these will form a part of the contracted 37.5 hours a week. The Parish Council will consider suggestions to split the post into different roles should this prove expedient.
