Planning and Administration Assistant

Applications must be returned by 24/02/2020 09:00

Almondsbury Parish Council is a large and busy local authority just north of Bristol, falling within the South Gloucestershire Council area. It is now seeking a keen and well organised office assistant to deal with general administration, as well as looking after the Planning Committee. Experience of working in local government would be an advantage, but is not essential as full training will be provided. Common sense, attention to detail, and a methodical approach to work are the attributes that we seek. An interest in planning issues would be very helpful.

You will be working for 10 hours per week, over 5 days, with some flexibility for attendance at one evening Planning Committee meeting per month. You will be the first point of contact when in the office – answering the telephone, opening post, responding to all sorts of queries by mail, telephone and email, so good communication skills are paramount. Your role also includes all types of administration, and is essential to the smooth running of a busy office.

It is expected that you will act as the Committee Clerk to the Planning Committee, compiling the agenda, attending the meeting to take minutes, and then sending council responses on as appropriate. Training and support while you develop in this role will be provided.

Salary is in the LC1 range (£19,554 to £21,589 pro rata), plus membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme.
