This is an exciting opportunity to join the town council’s office team, working with a wide range of people from councillors and members of the public to council agencies. The RFO will be responsible for the administration of the financial affairs of the council. This will include keeping day-to-day management of the accounts, and keep all accounts of the council in a proper manner; to prepare financial reports; assist with budgeting preparation and to keep sound financial controls of systems. To maintain the bank accounts and investments, bank reconciliations, payments, and keep VAT records and complete VAT returns. The RFO will prepare reports, and agenda and papers for the Finance and Governance Committee, attend and minute the meeting. This is varied role and would suit someone who understands financial accounting systems and likes working with figures, but is also able to interact with people and enjoys a busy working environment.
The role also includes keeping all cemetery records, accounts and payments up-to-date and accurate; this includes the computer records and historic books. To liaise with families, undertakers and stonemasons. To keep all Allotment records and deal with related correspondence, including issuing annual notice of renewals and collection of rents, waiting lists, issue new tenancy agreements.
You will need to have good financial skills, be organised and able to use Microsoft Office suite in particular Excel and Word. Flexibility to deal with a variety of situations and tasks is needed and to be able to work under pressure, using your own initiative, but also working as part of a team and be able to deal with changing priorities.
The town council offers a variety of benefits, including generous annual leave entitlements, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, annual pay increment scheme (subject to satisfactory performance) and on-the-job training and other relevant training courses.
