Salary: SCP 24-28: £28,672 to £32,234 p.a. pro rata (30 hrs per week - p/t)

Responsible Financial Officer
Applications must be returned by 30/11/2021 17:00
Do you have a strong financial background? Do you hold a financial accounting qualification? Do you have the drive to help the Town Council strive to meet its aims and objectives? The ideal candidate will have previous experience within local government. However, with the right financial mind and level of business acumen it may be that these sector-specific practices can be learned with an effective training and induction program. In the absence of local government experience, you would be expected to commit the time to introducing yourself to local government law and the various regulations that govern council finances and feel confident that you will be able to undertake this.
This is a key role within the Council’s Governance and a requirement under section 151 of the Local Government Act 1972 to be designated as the Council’s ‘Responsible Financial Officer’. The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring the proper administration of the Council’s financial affairs, ensuring all council financial policies and procedures meet statutory requirements and keeping abreast of any legislative changes.
The right candidate will need to hit the ground running, have excellent finance knowledge, good communication and administration skills, be able to work independently as well as part of a team where we all work together to progress the Council’s services, facilities, and projects. Applicants should have previous experience in a similar role and be able to have a flexible approach. Much of the role involves the ability to jump from different tasks quickly and efficiently – prioritising the work to meet deadlines and taking on ad-hoc duties. There will be a requirement to attend occasional evening meetings of the Council and its Committees under the direction of the Town Clerk.
Benefits include: competitive salary, automatic enrolment into the Local Government Pension Scheme (subject to eligibility), cycle to work scheme, training, supportive working environment – access to Employee Assistance Programme.
If you feel you are suitably qualified and able to meet the above criteria please download further information and an application form from the council’s website here.
For an informal chat to discuss your suitability for the role please contact Sharon Groth, Town Clerk & Chief Executive via her PA Loraine Harwood on 01993 226073.
Closing date for the receipt of applications is 5pm on Tuesday 30th November 2021.
