Wincanton Town Council is seeking to appoint a motivated Responsible Financial Officer/Deputy Clerk to support the Town Clerk and Councillors in achieving their aims and aspirations for the parish of Wincanton. The role will compliment that of the Town Clerks supporting an ambitious Town Council.
Wincanton is a market town situation in the southeast corner of Somerset (close to Wiltshire and Dorset borders). The Council presently employs a team of 6 members of staff and has 15 active Councillors.
The role will be responsible for Councils finances and accountable for the effective management of these finances and records so experience in this area is essential.
As Deputy Clerk you will provide support to the Town Clerk and deputise when required including being Clerk for some committees and advising on governance, constitutional and procedural matters. Provide effective administrative support to the committee and ensure all decisions are actioned. You will also prepare agendas, attend meetings and take minutes.
You will be confident and professional with excellent administrative skills and a flexible ‘can-do’ attitude.
A Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA) qualification is required as a minimum, or a willingness to achieve this within 12 months of commencing the role.
Attendance at evening meetings will be required. The role is for 15-21 hours (2-3 days) to be discussed with the correct candidate.
Subject to experience the pay will be in the range of NJC SCP 33-36 (£39,493 – £42,503) pro rata. You will be entitled to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.
