Chipping Norton Town Council is seeking to appoint a proactive, professional and diligent RFO & Deputy Clerk to be a key part of the senior management team at the Council to ensure that it is as efficient, forward thinking, innovative and structured as  possible.  The RFO & Deputy Clerk will also have the lead responsibility for ensuring that the financial management of the Council itself is maintained to the very highest standards.

The Council is currently going through a period of positive change, taking on more services and assets as it seeks to take a far greater level of control locally in ensuring that both the town of Chipping Norton and the residents who it serves are served in the most efficient and professional manner possible, aligned to ensuring that standards of services are not just maintained but enhanced.

The appointment of this post is the next step in ensuring that these aspirations are not just reached but exceeded.

The Town Council has a real vision for the town, driven by a desire to ensure the very best services and facilities are provided for its residents and visitors.  The postholder will play an active part in supporting the Town Clerk and councillors in reaching the goals that have been set, as well as be the appointed Deputy in the absence of the Clerk for any reason.

This is an extremely exciting  and rewarding opportunity for the right person, to be in at the beginnings of all the plans which the Council has for the future, offering up a chance to not just be a part of that journey, but to also be able to help shape what those changes look like in reality.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have relevant experience in general management and, importantly, managing finances and budgets up to around £500k p/a.  The postholder must be flexible, willing to learn, motivated and have a commitment to public service.  Local Government experience, though useful, is not necessarily required as training will be made available for the right person.

Chipping Norton Town Council is committed to Equality of Opportunity and actively welcomes applications from all sections of the community.

This process is being managed by a third party acting for the Town Council.  For an informal discussion and to access the Recruitment Pack then please call Mr Reg Williams on 07494 760535.

  • The closing date for the receipt of applications is 12 Noon on Wednesday 30 April 2025
  • Interviews will take place in Chipping Norton on Wednesday 7 May 2025
  • It is hoped the new RFO & Deputy Clerk will commence around Monday 16 June 2025
