Newark Town Council is one of the largest town councils in the Midlands serving a population of around 32,000 and with a gross spend of £2million next year. The activities and services delivered by the Council have increased significantly in recent years and the Council has ambitious plans for further expansion.
We are seeking a Town Clerk to succeed Alan Mellor who retires later this year. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to help shape the style and future direction of council which will require outstanding leadership and communication skills. The post provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to manage a significant budget and support the Town Council in its aspirations to make Newark a more vibrant town in the future.
Newark-on-Trent is an attractive and historic ancient market town containing over 360 listed buildings. It is surrounded by beautiful villages along the Trent valley, yet house prices are 25% lower than the national average.
If you have demonstrable expertise in managing a large Town Council or similar public sector body and feel you would be successful in this exacting position we would be delighted to hear from you. As well as existing clerks or deputies to large or medium sized local councils we would especially welcome applications from senior public sector managers.
