Overview: An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Oakham Town Council as Town Clerk. Oakham is a market town in Rutland and is looking to recruit a new Town Clerk.
The Council is made up of 12 Councillors and meets monthly. The Council is dedicated to making Oakham a better place to live.
The appointed Clerk will also act as the Council’s Responsible Finance Officer (RFO).
The Council owns and maintain a number of premises and facilities, including a allotments, bowls club, tennis club, recreation grounds, open spaces and a community transport scheme.

The role: The Clerk has overall responsibility for all administering Council finances, services and activities. This includes management of premises and facilities, and events management support. The Clerk is expected to advise the Town Council on, and assist in the formation of policies, and to produce all the information required for effective decision making and implementing all decisions.
The Clerk is responsible for the management of the Deputy Clerk and Handy Person.

Requirements: The ideal candidate will be CILCA qualified, and have significant experience in management, with some financial background.
The post requires good organisation and communication skills and it would be advantageous to have previous knowledge using a variety of IT systems, including website and social media platforms and Rialtas Accounts Software.

Working arrangements: The role is part time (25 – 30 hours per week), primarily based at the councils offices in Oakham but with scope for a degree of home working. The role requires flexible working, with some evenings and occasional weekend attendance.
