Responsible for: All Council staff, property, and financial resources

Hours: Full-time (30 to 39 hours per week) including some evening work

Salary scale: SCP 35 to 36, depending on experience and qualifications


North Walsham is a growing town with a current population of 12,000. We currently employ 3 office staff and 4 grounds maintenance staff.

From our office and from our maintenance compound we are responsible for 3 parks, weekly and monthly markets, 140 street lights, grass verges, 2 cemeteries, 16 allotments and our much-loved Market Cross (listed Ancient Monument), Our active councillors run monthly boot sales and monthly street feast food festivals.

Full Council and Committee meetings are normally held on Tuesday evenings.

Job Purpose

To develop and manage policy, strategy, and operations across the Council’s services by working with Councillors, external bodies, and staff. To carry out functions required by law as the Council’s Proper Officer. To provide inspirational leadership to Council staff and seek opportunities to develop the Council’s services and facilities to meet the needs of the community.
