Situated between Durham and Bishop Auckland, Spennymoor has a rich history and visitors can enjoy the celebration of its working-class culture with a visit to the Bob Abley Art Gallery, enjoy its beautiful environment with a stroll through Jubilee Park or even indulge in a shopping spree by taking advantage of the town’s multinational and independent stores.

Spennymoor Town Council is made up of 22 councillors, supported by a Town Clerk leading a team of 23 officers with an annual budget of around £1.8m. The Council is now looking for a talented and hardworking individual to lead the Council into the future. The successful candidate will need to build a wide range of positive relationships with Councillors,  volunteers, residents, local groups, and partner organisations. You will also manage all the Town Council’s legal and administrative functions.

In this important role, you will be responsible for looking after the Council’s facilities and services including Council staff, buildings, allotments, public spaces, civic events, public conveniences, and cemeteries.  You will also oversee the statutory functions of the Council including commenting on local planning applications. The Clerk is supported by an excellent team of officers, making this the ideal position for somebody with previous management experience. Strategic delivery is at the core of the role.

The salary starts at £58,583, progressing to £65,803, subject to satisfactory performance. The full-time role is based at the magnificent Town Hall in the High Street. The contracted 37 hours include some evening and occasional weekend working. You will receive 26 days annual leave (rising to 31 days after 5 years’ service). The Council offers a generous local government pension scheme.
