Permanent role – 37 hours per week. Salary Grade NJC SCP 33-36 depending upon qualifications and experience. The post holder will be eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme and the post is subject to the National Terms and Conditions agreement.

With a budget of around £430,000 Midsomer Norton Town Council is one of the largest local councils in B&NES with eleven elected councillors. We are looking for a proactive Town Clerk to start in March 2023, who can think strategically and laterally to help our Council move forward with a range of ambitious and exciting plans and bring innovation and imagination to the role.

The successful candidate will of course be expected to carry out or oversee all the functions of the Council as its Clerk, RFO and Proper Officer, supported by a Deputy Clerk, two part-time administrative staff, and one Town Warden.  We are seeking someone who can also manage projects such as the Town Hall Transformation Project and work with us to continuously improve our services. Experience of managing contractors would be beneficial as some of the Council’s services are delivered this way.

Some knowledge of the Local Government sector is essential, as is experience of setting and monitoring budgets and preparing reports. You should also have good IT skills including some experience of website management. Candidates will ideally have passed CiLCA or be willing to do so within the first 12 months in the post.

The successful candidate will be required to attend evening meetings on a regular basis and on occasion to work for a time at a weekend. The Council, in return, supports its staff to work flexibly and provides the technology to enable this when appropriate.
